11+ Preparation Course
At Beaconsfield our 11+ Course is tailored to the entrance exams for schools in Buckinghamshire and runs every Wednesday and Thursday from 7pm-8pm. Whilst teaching small groups in a stimulating setting we equip children with the knowledge and experience to achieve their potential. The sessions are designed to best prepare them for their exams in a fun and supportive environment. This course is for children in Year 5 and runs for 12 months starting in October.
Please note that our Thursday class now has a waiting list and there are now only three spaces available on the Wednesday class. Please contact the centre for more information.
Succeed in Secondary
Succeed in Secondary is a course that is designed to help prepare children for their new lives at secondary school. Succeed in Secondary is for members in years 6-9 and runs every Monday 7-8pm. It is a great chance for our older members to debate, discuss, present, and build up their confidence for the transition to year 7 and beyond!
Explore Writing!
This fantastic creative writing course has been designed in conjunction with Explore Learning, Immersive Education and the University of Oxford. Explore Writing runs every Tuesday 7-8pm and is open to all members aged 8-14 year olds.
Lead by Explore Managers and Tutors, the course gives children the opportunity to:
* Stretch their imagination
* Become skilled in a range of writing styles
* Produce creative pieces of work they can be really proud of!
Beaconsfield's School Programme
Explore Learning Beaconsfield have been working very closely with school across Buckinghamshire running free maths and literacy workshops. Some of the Schools that we have visited are Carringtons, Farnham Common, and Danesfield. Have we visited yours? If not, please call the Beaconsfield centre to request a booking form, and to find out about the great workshops we can hold with your class or community group.
What teachers think...
"The tutors had a great rapport with the pupils and continually went around inspiring and aiding them. The children had a fabulous time; it was a very well spent hour and half!"
Ms Clark, Year 4 Teacher, Great Kingshill Combined School
Community Events
Explore Learning have been out and about over the last few months, taking our maths and literacy workshops on the road not only to schools, but to libraries and Brownies packs. If you saw us there we hope you enjoyed the sessions!
In February we visited 5th Penn & Tylers Green Brownies to hold a Number Fun workshop, and also visited Beaconsfield and Hazelmere libraries. If you have an event that you would like us to attend, please speak to one of the managers in the centre.
Centre News
This term we have been giving schools, libraries and community groups, and individual children the opportunity to enter our 2nd annual National Young Writers' Competition. This exciting competition asked entrants to write a 500 word story on the subject of 'lost and found'. We will be announcing the winner very soon, who will receive the ultimate 1st prize of a trip to Disneyland Paris for them and their family (subject to terms and conditions) and £500 worth of books for their school!
On Friday 5th March we are launching our Older Member Night! All children in Year 6 and above are invited to attend the centre on Friday evenings from 7pm and are entitled to older member privileges. These include being able to use your MP3 players during your Surf Club time, and with your parents permission, being able to use them during your session when you do not need the headphones. You will also be able to bring in any pieces of homework to work on as part of your session.
In Surf Club, look out for our Easter theme month coming up in April when there will be lots of exciting things happening! There will be an Easter Egg Hunt around the centre with 2 eggs to find each week. Inside the eggs will be photos of your tutors as babies, so see if you can guess who they are. The first 3 people to get them all correct will win a prize!
We would also like you to help spruce up Surf Club by decorating a puzzle piece to stick up on the wall. Keep your eyes peeled for more details!
Now that all our members have been told which lizard team they are in, we are looking out for some great efforts to be put into all the exciting activities in the centre this month to win points for your teams.

Quotes from parents, teachers and children
"I came here because I needed help with my studies and I knew they followed the national curriculum. I've learnt a lot in maths and English too...my marks have got much better, so I'm feeling happier."
Kitty O'Neil, 8, Beaconsfield Member
"The event reinforced class teaching. It was helpful for the children to apply their literacy skills and learning in such a fun way."
Mrs Thompson, Year 3 Teacher, Juniper Hill
"(Teachers) have seen their progression and enjoy watching them succeed just as much as we do."
Mrs Hooper, Beaconsfield Parent
"It's what some parents might do at home, but in a structured environment. It certainly seems to relieve the pressure on both the parents and the children, as they can see they are doing their best."
Mr Nott, Headteacher, Davenies, Beaconsfield
"The tutors are friendly, enthusiastic, caring and always helpful. They communicate really well with the children and find time to cater for their individual needs."
Mr and Mrs Rowe, Beaconsfield Parents
"Tom has done amazingly well since coming to Explore. He is only in his second month of coming but already I have noticed an improvement in reading, maths and most of all confidence. I would recommend this to anyone. Tom loves it here!"
Lynne Smith, Beaconsfield Parent
"The service is excellent. My daughter really enjoys working with the tutors who are fun but also knowledgeable. The Parent Conference meetings are informative and accurately match the feedback from school."
Sarah Dean, Beaconsfield Parent
"Iona has been able to consolidate and fully understand work that she is doing at school. The extra coverage of the same topics has given her a solid foundation when moving on to more advanced concepts."
Lucy Johnstone, Beaconsfield Parent
"My children have both excelled in school and I have no doubt that Explore Learning is one of the main reasons. Even my children have passed comment on how Explore Learning has helped with work in school."
T. Hardy, Beaconsfield Parent
