Additional Courses
At the Ruislip centre we now run three exciting additional classes. We have a limited number of spaces still available on each of these courses so please contact us for more details.
Exam Preparation - Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm.
Brand new intake starting January 2010!
Our Entrance Exam Preparation Course is for Year 5 pupils, and is a comprehensive course designed to prepare children for entrance exams at nearby schools, such as Watford Grammar, Rickmansworth, Harrow and Northwood College. The course covers verbal and non-verbal reasoning as well as extending core maths and literacy skills and developing confidence.
Explore Writing - Wednesday at 7pm.
Our unique creative writing course closely follows the National Curriculum and is aimed at inspiring reluctant readers and writers, as well as providing a creative outlet for those children who already love literacy. Each week we will be encouraging children to extend their vocabulary and develop a passion for literacy through group activities, story boarding, and individual tasks.
Succeed in Secondary - Thursday at 6pm.
In October 2009 we launched a brand new course designed to develop the skills needed to succeed in secondary school. Children face many challenges at this time, in particular the need to demonstrate a wider skill set and an ability to respond to different teaching techniques. Open to all children in Year 6 – 8 and taught by our skilled tutors, this course encourages expression of opinion, a mature attitude to learning, confident debating and improved study and research skills.
Schools Programme
In Ruislip we are dedicated to supporting local schools, and run free literacy and numeracy workshops to encourage enthusiasm for learning. In our opening year, we have worked with over 20 schools and hope to extend this in the new academic term. Most recently, St Swithun Wells, Field End Infant and Roxbourne First Schools participated in our fantastically fun Maths Rally for Year 1 classes, and we returned after the events to present some special awards in assembly to the pupils who impressed us with their Maths Mega Brains! All of the workshops on offer are based around relevant National Curriculum objectives and aim to get the children excited about maths and literacy through interactive activities and team games.
In 2010, we are excited to announce the 2nd annual National Young Writer's Award, a fantastic competition open to all budding young authors! We will be visiting local schools to run interactive workshops designed to inspire creative writing, as well as giving pupils the opportunity to enter the competition to be in with a chance of winning a family trip to Disneyland and £500 worth of resources for their school! This year we will be asking children to submit a 500-word story based around the theme of Lost and Found.
Please call us on 01895 636378 to find out more about the literacy and numeracy workshops we can hold at your school! We are now taking bookings for our Spring Term Maths and Literacy events and slots are filling up fast, so don't delay!
“The [Year 1] event got them excited about maths. There were lots of great interactive activities that got everyone involved. It benefited the children by giving them different ways to consolidate basic skills.”

Libraries Programme
Our centre also has a fantastic relationship with all of Hillingdon and Harrow's libraries, holding exciting literacy workshops based around children's favourite books during every school holiday. Over the summer we got creative with Horrid Henry, Tracy Beaker and The Twits, and we held brand new workshops based around Captain Underpants and The Snowman during the Christmas holidays! Please contact your local library or call us for details of where and when the workshops are being held.
