Welcome to Explore Learning Woking!

At Explore we are dedicated to helping children excel both educationally and socially, and believe that the most progress is made when children enjoy their learning.  Our team of friendly and enthusiastic tutors help children to increase in confidence, ensuring that each session is engaging.

We work closely with families and schools, providing parents with regular feedback and schools with free maths and literacy workshops. We also offer families the opportunity to visit the centre to meet our tutors, see the centre in action and find out how we can help your child fulfill their potential.

Explore Writing, Tuesday 7-8pm
Launch:  To be announced
Designed to excite reluctant readers, inspire imagination and challenge children who already love to write, this unique course helps to develop a passion for reading and writing in all children.  Developed in conjunction with Explore Learning, Immersive Education and the University of Oxford, this course is open to all children from Year 3 upwards.  Throughout the course we explore a range of writing styles including:
  • stories
  • newspaper articles
  • play scripts
Our tutors will help children develop confidence in their own ideas and improve their drafting, spelling and editing skills to produce work they are proud of.  Free taster sessions are available to both new families and current members.

Entrance Exam Preparation, Wednesday 7-8pm
If your child is in Year 5 and you are considering them taking 11+ or entrance exams in Year 6 then please call today to book your free trial as places are limited.  The Woking 11+ course is tailored to prepare children for all elements involved in the local school exams; English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills as well as exam technique.  Experienced tutors work with small groups, guiding them through this often unfamiliar area of study in a fun and supportive atmosphere, equipping them with the skills necessary to tackle the exam with confidence.  We regularly monitor progress through realistic exam practice and accordingly design individual programs for each child.

Succeed in Secondary, Thursday 7-8pm
Launch:  To be announced
In partnership with the Guardian newspaper, Succeed in Secondary is an exciting course centred on current issues.  The program is designed to help children prepare for life at secondary school and boost confidence during the sometimes tricky transition to Year 7 and beyond!  Open to all pupils in Year 6 and above, we examine topics such as Citizenship, Science, Geography and History using a hands-on approach which will then transfer to the classroom.  The course provides an opportunity for our older members to express opinions, build independent and group study skills, research, engage in topical debate and present their ideas; all skills essential for Key Stage 3 and 4.

VIP nights/Late Night Learning, Thursday 6-8pm
These sessions, exclusively for our members in Year 6 and above, allow them to experience an older, more mature atmosphere in our learning centre.  Enjoying the company of children their age, the opportunity to listen to music as they work and the chance to capitalise on all our excellent resources to help with their homework has already proved popular with lots of members.  They also have the privilege of earning special VIP prizes!  Book a free trial session to visit the centre on Thursday evenings to try out this exclusive club.

Woking Explore and Schools

To ensure our learning centre complements the great work our members are doing in the classroom we pride ourselves on the strong links that we have already established with our local schools.  We are keen to build our relationships with other local schools by offering free interactive workshops in maths and English for pupils from Year 1 to Year 6.  All of our workshops are based around relevant National Curriculum objectives and are designed to get children of all abilities excited about their learning.  We are also pleased to announce that we have a range of Gifted and Talented workshops to challenge children in Years 3 to 6.

Have we visited your school?  So far we have worked with:
  • St Hugh of Lincoln Primary
  • Bisley C of E Primary
  • Beaufort Community Primary
  • Horsell C of E Junior
  • Westfield Primary

National Young Writers' Award 2010
Throughout January and February we have been visiting schools to inspire budding young authors to enter our exciting annual competition and be in with the chance of winning a family trip to Disneyland Paris and £500 worth of resources for their school!  We have had a fantastic response from all those involved, and are looking forward to returning to schools to present certificates and announce the winner in March.

What our teachers think...

"Both tutors were very relaxed with the children, interacted well with them, good classroom management and still made it fun!  All children commented how fun the session was and how they now think differently about writing."
Thérèse McSeveney, Head of Year 6, Horsell C of E Junior School
